Reimagining the archetypal tale of Red Riding Hood, my watercolour painting "The Journey Redefined" is a provocative exploration of the ego and shadow sides of the self.

Red Riding Hood, often portrayed as the naïve and unsuspecting victim, now leads the way, emblematic of the ego's journey towards self-discovery and empowerment. This young adult version of the iconic character emerges as a figure of agency, guiding her own journey with a newfound sense of purpose. Her cape, once a symbol of vulnerability, now drapes over her like a mantle of strength and independence. Red's stride, paired with her forward gaze, hints at the experiences she's weathered and the tales yet untold.

Beside her, the wolf, traditionally the embodiment of threat and deceit, is here recast as a protective presence. Symbolic of the shadow self personified, his foreboding appearance serves not as a threat to Red but as a protective shield against the world's lurking dangers. Together, they traverse the forest, their footsteps in sync, portraying the powerful alliance one can form when accepting and confronting the 'big bad wolf' within us.
