Today marks four years since my brother, Daniel, was taken from this world in a way no soul should have to leave. He is deeply missed and loved by so many of us.
If there’s one thing about Dan—it’s that he truly lived. Not in the cautious, measured way so many of us do, but in a way that cracked open the world and demanded more from it. He lived without hesitation—launching himself into adventures, dreaming up hare-brained ideas, pulling off ridiculous pranks, and showing up for the people he loved with everything he had. He loved fiercely, gave selflessly, thought deeply, and made me laugh so hard I might have peed myself on more than one occasion. Breaking rules, pushing boundaries, charming his way out of trouble, and living his best life—that was Dan.
His love for the sea, for wild, untamed freedom, for moments that made life feel bigger—that spirit lives on. The ocean always called to him, and it continues to remind me of him, of the powerful currents that shape us, and the depth of connection that feels as strong as ever.
That love of movement, transformation, and resilience became part of Tidal Ember Art. Tidal represents the ever-changing flow of creativity, much like the waves—powerful, unpredictable, always in motion. Ember is the quiet, glowing fire that never dies, the warmth that lingers even in the stillness. It’s the spark that refuses to be extinguished, much like Dan’s presence in my life. Even in loss, he continues to inspire me to create, to share, to keep moving forward.
So today, I honour him—not just in grief, but in gratitude. For the time we had. For the lessons he still teaches me. For every day.
Love you, Dan. Keep showing up for us.
